Confined Space Training

Confined space training is for all staff who have a requirement to work within confined spaces.

Who Should Attend?

All staff who are required to work in confined spaces.

Learning Objectives

Low-Risk Confined Spaces:

  • Preparation to work safely in low risk confined spaces.
  • Safely enter and exit confined spaces.
  • Safely use equipment and tools in accordance with guidelines.
  • Work safely and follow appropriate procedures.
  • Deal with emergency situations.
  • Understand appropriate behaviours while working in low risk confined spaces.

Medium-Risk Confined Spaces:

  • Preparation to work safely in medium risk confined spaces.
  • Safely enter and exit confined spaces.
  • Safely use equipment and tools in accordance with guidelines.
  • Work safely and follow appropriate procedures.
  • Deal with emergency situations.
  • Understand appropriate behaviours while working in medium risk confined spaces.

High-Risk Confined Spaces:

  • Understand the dangers associated with high risk confined spaces.
  • Understand the current legislation surrounding confined spaces.
  • Gain knowledge of appropriate permits.
  • Conduct risk assessments for confined spaces.
  • Understand different atmospheres and the risks involved.
  • Understand the use of gas detection equipment.
  • Be able to use PPE (ropes, harnesses…).
  • Use full breathing apparatus.
  • Understand communication methods.
  • Identify and use the equipment which is required for resuscitation.
  • Gain an understanding of vertical entry using tripods and winches.
  • Understand lock out and tag out procedures.
